589786 Rosemary ReidRosemary Reid of Portland, a representative of Modern Woodmen of America, was named to Modern Woodmen’s President’s Cabinet.
Reid was recognized for her high achievement in life insurance sales and ranking among the organization’s top representatives nationwide.

UPS driver Ted Kalicky of Gorham was recently inducted into its Circle of Honor for achieving 25 years of accident-free driving.
Kalicky and six other elite drivers from Maine are among 1,613 newly inducted into the company’s honorary organization.
Maine has 42 active Circle of Honor drivers with a combined 1,142 years of accident-free driving.

Aaron Fitzgerald, manager of McDonald’s in Topsham, was selected to receive the 2016 Ray Kroc Award, which recognizes the top 1 percent of McDonald’s restaurant managers from around the world. The honor comes with a cash prize and a trophy.
Fitzgerald has been working for McDonald’s for nearly 10 years. He began his career in 2006 as a crew person at the Lisbon restaurant and was promoted to manager in 2008.
Lee Jackson was recognized as the McDonald’s Crew Person of the Year.
Jackson was one of only 25 McDonald’s employees nationwide to receive the award.

589786 Kirby LittlefieldKirby Littlefield, a longtime employee of Maine Water, was presented with the Sid Anthony Award of Merit from the Maine Water Utilities Association.
Littlefield was hired as a plant operator in May 1966 in the water treatment plant in Biddeford. He is now completing his 50th year in that role.

 

Sophia Rosendo, a Portland auction professional, recently received her designation as an Accredited Auctioneer Real Estate from the National Auctioneers Association’s Education Institute. Rosendo, of Cape Elizabeth, is an auction professional with Tranzon Auction Properties.

Scott Simons was named to the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects.
Simons is one of three Fellows in Maine and the seventh in the state’s history to receive this honor. He has practiced architecture for over 30 years.

589786 Anna MoormanAnna Moorman, of Allen Insurance and Financial, recently received an award from Martin’s Point Generations Advantage as one of their top 10 performing producers in Medicare sales for Maine.
Moorman has been with Allen Insurance since 2012. She assists people who are aging into the Medicare system.

Scott Edwards, an employee of Poland Spring, was named one of four employees to receive the Nestlé Waters North America President’s Award in January.
Edwards was recognized for his commitment to the community and dedication to Poland Spring. He lives in Harrison and has worked for Poland Spring for 22 years.

Shane Perry recently received the Accreditation in Public Relations designation, joining only about 5,000 skilled public relations professionals worldwide.

Baker Newman Noyes was recently ranked in Accounting Today’s list of the top 100 firms in the country.
The annual list ranks CPA firms by revenue. The firm received high marks for its growth of 30 percent in 2015, allowing it to enter at 96 and rank fourth in the New England region. Overall growth for the top 100 came in at 9.32 percent.

Joshua Broder, CEO of Tilson, was named a 2017 “Top Young Professional” by Engineering News-Record, a national magazine of record for commercial construction and engineering stakeholders.
Broder was recognized for his role in numerous broadband infrastructure initiatives, including: the Three Ring Binder Project and the deployment of ultra-fast LTE cellular systems for several carriers.

Robin Alden, executive director of the Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries, was recognized as a “Hero of the Seas” award winner, one of the Peter Benchley Ocean Awards.
Alden was recognized for her career working at the grassroots, engaging fishermen’s knowledge and participation to build sustainable, healthy coastal fisheries and fishing communities.

Matthew Bell, co-founder, owner and operator of Northeast Pellets LLC was recently named to the National Small Business Association Leadership Council.
Bell, a recognized leader in the small-business community, joins the council alongside other small-business advocates from across the country as they work to promote the interests of small business to policymakers in Washington, D.C.

Thomas Downs, chief meteorologist in the bureau of air quality at Maine DEP, has received the EPA Environmental Merit Award.
He was recognized for his outstanding contributions and continued efforts to address the implementation of significant local, regional, and national ambient air quality programs.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS

Todd Keiller

The Maine Center for Entrepreneurial Development announced the appointment of two new members to its board of directors. The new members are Todd Keiller, director, intellectual property and innovation, Worcester Polytechnic Institute; and Brian Whitney, president, Maine Technology Institute.
Keiller brings 30 years of experience in licensing, business development and marketing. He has managed the technology transfer affairs at Maine Medical Center for the last 13 years and the same for the University of New England for the last eight years.

Whitney is president of the Maine Technology Institute. He brings extensive experience in economic development.

 

 

 

Greg Boyd was elected to the board of directors for the Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
Boyd is president and chief executive officer of Alternative Manufacturing, Inc. in Winthrop.
An active Rotarian, Boyd serves on the Kennebec Valley United Way Board and the Central/Western Workforce Development Board.

Two nonprofits hire new top executives

NEW HIRES
SailMaine appointed Michael McAllister as its new executive director.
McAllister, of Portland, is a former member of SailMaine’s board of directors. He has served as interim executive director for the past year.
As executive director of SailMaine, McAllister will continue to pursue SailMaine’s mission of providing affordable access to the water through community sailing and educational programming.

Bo Hoppin was hired as executive director of Hurricane Island Center for Science and Leadership.
Hoppin brings more than 27 years of related experience. Most recently, he was executive director of Friends of Young Achievers in Boston, Massachusetts.
Hoppin will be relocating to the greater Rockland area.

Grant Austin joined St.Germain Collins as a senior project manager and environmental scientist.
Austin has nearly 20 years of experience as an environmental scientist.

 

Matt Leonard, a local businessman and former president and chief executive officer of the Lewiston Auburn Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, was named a co-owner of LA Metro Magazine.
Leonard will assume the duties as chief visionary officer focusing on business development, creative development, and working on a vision to steer the magazine’s course into the future.

Susan Feibelman was named head of school for Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki, a Wiscasset institution dedicated to education and the environment.
Feibelman joined the faculty last year as a U.S. history teacher. She brings 17 years of progressive leadership roles in the Dallas public schools.

PROMOTIONS
U.S. Cellular promoted Brittany Smith to administrative coordinator for the directors of sales for company-owned and agent store locations in New England.
Smith will work out of the company’s regional business office in South Portland. She joined U.S. Cellular in 2006 as a retail wireless consultant. Most recently, she served as the administrative coordinator.

St.Germain Collins promoted Sandra Perry to director of environmental, health and safety services.
Perry has been with St.Germain Collins since 2015 and has more than more than 25 years of comprehensive regulatory compliance experience throughout New England.

Diversified Communications announced that Rick Watson was promoted to chief executive officer of DBC Pri-Med.
Watson was hired in 2002 and has held leadership roles in marketing, corporate development and general management.

Sarah Chappell Armentrout

BOARD APPOINTMENTS
The Maine Community Foundation elected two members to its board of directors: Sarah Chappell Armentrout of Lyman; and Adilah Muhammad of Lewiston.
Armentrout co-founded Carlisle Academy Integrative Equine Therapy and Sports for individuals with and without special needs.
Muhammad is a strategic planning and research consultant. She has facilitated community change efforts between faith-based and public institutions at the local, state and national level.

 

The League of Women Voters of Maine re-elected Jill Ward as president.
Ward lives in South Portland. Polly Ward of South Freeport, was named vice president; Cathie Whittenburg of Portland, was named secretary; and Ann Luther of Trenton, was named treasurer.
The following women were named directors: Peg Balano of Falmouth; John Brautigam of Portland; Helen Hanlon of Winthrop; Barbara Kaufman of South Freeport; Linda Lord of Brooks; Barbara McDade of Bangor; Stephanie Philbrick of Bowdoin; and Anne Schink of South Portland.

The Animal Welfare Society appointed Barbara Finkelstein to its board of directors.
Finkelstein has spent her 39-year career in higher education and is currently the president of York County Community College in Wells.

Timothy Griffin and Daniel Kleban joined the board of directors at Wolfe’s Neck Farm.
Griffin is an associate professor at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Tufts University. He was previously a research agronomist and lead scientist with the USDA-Agriculture Research Service in Orono from 2000 to 2008.
A former attorney, Kleban co-founded Maine Beer Co. in Freeport in 2009.

AWARD RECIPIENTS
Natalie King, executive vice president of Stonewall Kitchen, was selected as a 2017 Hall of Fame recipient by the Specialty Food Association.
King joined Stonewall Kitchen in 1996 and currently leads all of Stonewall Kitchen’s “guest-facing” efforts, including the wholesale division, 10 company stores, the cooking school and catalog and internet divisions in addition to the teams that oversee product development, merchandising planning and buying, marketing and design and guest services.

Maine Quality Counts and Bicyce Coalition of Maine name new executives

Maine Quality Counts hired Larry Clifford as executive director.
Clifford has held leadership roles for a wide range of health care organizations for the past 30 years. Most recently, he served as chief planning and development officer for Penobscot Community Health Care.

Gail Murphy joined the staff at Hobbs Funeral Homes as office manager and administrative specialist.
Murphy, of Kennebunk, brings extensive experience in office management has worked previously for timber, plastics and roofing companies in Maine. She has also been payroll coordinator, human resources manager, bookkeeper and accounting manager in her prior positions.

Mid-Maine Chamber of Commerce welcomed Kelly Smith to its team as program assistant.
Smith brings more than 10 years experience at Family Violence Project, most recently serving as development director.

 

Bicycle Coalition of Maine hired Angela King as the community advocacy coordinator.
King is a former teacher, attorney and community activist.

 

 

PROMOTIONS
Cancer Care Center of York County named Louise Baca as the center’s acting executive director.
Baca brings over 17 years of administrative experience in the field of cancer care and radiation oncology. She currently serves as business director of the oncology service line for Maine Medical Center, overseeing the operations of radiation oncology programs in Scarborough, Portland and Bath as well as the Cancer Care Center of York County in Sanford. She has been with MaineHealth since 2016.

BOARD APPOINTMENTS
United Way of Greater Portland recently welcomed six people to its board of trustees.
They include Helaine Ayers, community volunteer; Dan Espinal, senior director for strategy and business development at Idexx; Michael Greer, executive director of Portland Ballet; Lou Inzana, senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer at Maine Medical Center; Leeann Leahy, CEO of The VIA Agency; and Mike Vail, president of Hannaford Supermarkets.

GENERAL
Cirrus LED Systems, an LED technology company, relocated its headquarters and manufacturing operations from San Francisco to Saco.
The company previously maintained a small office on Middle Street in Portland. A West Coast presence will be maintained as part of this expansion. Cirrus LED Systems has three divisions: outdoor high-resolution LED displays and electronic message centers, horticultural LED lighting and cloud-based digital display content management software.

Avangrid, Inc. has moved its finance, internal audit and other executive offices to downtown Portland.
An estimated 140 employees will be working at the new facilities in One City Center. Avangrid is the parent company of Central Maine Power Co.

Heidi and Brett Allen will assume responsibility for all event scheduling, program direction and oversight of the building currently recognized as 207Sports, located at 1173 Riverside St. in Portland.
In November, the facility will be identified as the “Maine Athletic Complex.” The MAC’s mission is to provide space and programming that will offer small groups, clubs, schools, camps and event planners the opportunity to teach, train and host events in a safe and comfortable environment.

Day One announced promotions; WinterKids named new board members

PROMOTIONS
Day One announced the promotions of Joanne Grant, Christine Grant, Sharon Martel and Kristen Cianelli.
Joanne Grant was named director of residential services at its three residential locations in Buxton, Hollis and Hinckley, which serve youth ages 13 to 20 years-old.
Christine Grant was promoted to director of corrections services and clinical training at Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, where Day One provides services to committed youth in collaboration with the Department of Corrections. She joined Day One as program manager at Long Creek in 2013.

Martel was promoted to accounting manager.
Martel was hired in 2016 to operate the day-to-day accounting function within the agency.

 

Cianelli has taken on an expanded role. She will continue to serve as program manager for Day One’s residence at Hollis and its residence in Buxton for girls.

 

BOARD APPOINTMENTS
WinterKids announced its new board members for fiscal year 2018.
Seth Coburn is an associate attorney at Verrill Dana LLP.

 

 

 

Sarah Long is a meteorologist at WMTW and owner of Long’s Board Shop. Long has been a friend of WinterKids for eight years, having hosted License to Chill, Welcome to Winter and the Downhill 24.

 

Jeff Zachau is the president of Zachau Construction.

GENERAL
The Book Review in Falmouth changed ownership.
Clare Lygo, a Falmouth resident and loyal patron of the book shop, has bought the business. Siblings Donna Williams and Stephen Fournier, who operated the store for 37 years, are retiring.
Lygo has been a customer of the Book Review for 22 years.

Rough and Tumble, a leather handbag and apparel manufacturer, will expand to a third location in the Fort Andross Mill in Brunswick.

This location will serve as headquarters for production and design with a forthcoming retail space before the new year.

The University of Maine School of Law hired Jennifer Crane as director of advancement.
A 2005 graduate of Bowdoin College, Crane returned there in 2011 to work in the office of development and alumni relations. She brings diverse fundraising knowledge and experience.

Dawn Tufts joined Hussey Seating Co. as a financial analyst.
Tufts, of Sanford, is a graduate of Bentley University. She previously worked for another family-owned business, H.A. Mapes in Springvale.

Locations Real Estate Group announced three new hires.
Leah Gagne has joined Locations with extensive knowledge in sales and experience with larger parcel, farm and waterfront properties.

 

Anne Manning was hired with an extensive background in design and home construction. She is the co-founder and home design specialist at MGM Builders.

 

Jason McFarland also joined Locations. He brings experience with investment properties. In addition, he has owned multiple properties in the Greater Portland area.

 

Kristy Goodson joined Bar Harbor Bank & Trust as senior vice president, treasury services manager.
Goodson, of Concord, New Hampshire, will work with business customers across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Most recently, she worked as senior vice president and manager of treasury services and municipal banking at a New Hampshire-based financial institution.

PROMOTIONS
Lauren Chartier was promoted to marketing and events coordinator at Down East Enterprise Inc.
Chartier has worked for Down East since 2016, filling several roles as circulation assistant and production representative.

J.S. McCarthy Printers announced that Jonathan Tardiff was appointed president of J.S. McCarthy Co.
For the past 25 years, Tardiff has worked in the family business in various positions.

Montalvo, an industrial web services company in Gorham, announced three promotions.
Eric Champigny was promoted to a gauging technician.
Champigny joined Montalvo in February in a part-time position. He has two years of electronics experience. He previously worked with Enercon Technologies.

 

Josh Harriman was promoted to electronics and quality-control technician.
Harriman joined Montalvo in 2011, with two years of electronics experience. Previously, Harriman worked at Idexx and Metso Paper.

 

Jack Mastrogiacomo was promoted to a quality-control manager.
Mastrogiacomo joined Montalvo in 2016 and has over 30 years of experience. He previously worked with Boston Brands of Maine, Maine Oxy and Lab Medical Co.

 

Kayla Caron was promoted to associate at Scott Simons Architects.
A resident of Portland, Caron joined the firm in 2013 and has her master’s in architecture from Norwich University. She has worked on a variety of projects, with a focus on master planning, educational and library projects.

Burns & McDonnell has promoted Victor Elazegui to serve as a physical security specialist in the Northeast from its Portland office.
Elazegui is an ASIS board-certified physical security professional and has experience in physical security operations and management in the public and private industries.

Geci, of Falmouth, previously served as director of southern commercial banking and the senior vice president for Cumberland and York counties at Camden National Bank.

Kristy Goodson joined Bar Harbor Bank & Trust as senior vice president, treasury services manager.

Goodson of Concord, New Hampshire, will be working with business customers across all three states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.

She brings decades of experience developing treasury management, merchant services and payroll services in the banking industry.

Norway Savings Bank hired Andrea Wallace as assistant vice president, mortgage loan officer of the Gorham and Standish offices.

Wallace brings more than 20 years of experience in the mortgage industry.

SIS Bank named Catherine Buffum as its new commercial lender.

Buffum, of Biddeford, previously held positions as a vice president, commercial loan officer at institutions such as TD Bank and Androscoggin Bank.

Bigelow Investment Advisors named P. Benjamin Flood as vice president and senior adviser.

Flood brings his expertise as a Certified Financial Planner practitioner to the firm as it grows and expands its current financial planning offerings.

Flood spent the previous 10 years with KeyCorp, most recently working as a financial adviser with Key Investment Services LLC.

PROMOTIONS

New Dimensions Federal Credit Union promoted Danielle Farmer as Augusta’s newest branch manager.

Farmer joined the credit union in 2014 as a teller and later transitioned into the role as head teller and lending consultant.

Dan Hancock, an employee since 2007, was promoted to chief deposit officer.

Mark Girr, who was hired in 2014, was promoted to senior vice president, director of marketing and communications.

Alden Joy, an employee with nearly 25 years of service, was promoted to vice president, general services.

Michael Voisine, who was hired in 2004, was promoted to assistant vice president, commercial portfolio loan officer.

William Kennedy joined the Portland law firm of Drummond & Drummond LLP.
Kennedy assists clients with all aspects of civil litigation. He worked for three years as a law clerk for the Maine Superior Court and Business and Consumer Court.

Michael-Corey Francis Hinton joined Drummond Woodsum as an associate to its nationwide Indian Law Practice Group.
Hinton was an attorney at Akin Gump in Washington, D.C. His focus is on advising Indian nations and their enterprises.

Drummond also added Erick Giles to its service group for tribes.
Giles, a University of Maine School of Law graduate, has deep experience in working with Indian nations on environmental regulatory matters.

APPOINTMENTS
Elizabeth Connellan Smith, an attorney at Verrill Dana, was appointed first co-chair of the American Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Standing Committee.
Smith will serve a three-year term. She has practiced for nearly 25 years and brings experience in workers compensation law.

Peter Guffin, who heads Pierce Atwood’s privacy and data security practice, was selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce and European Commission to serve as an arbitrator for the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield arbitration program.
In his privacy and data security law practice, Guffin counsels clients on compliance with state, federal and international laws and regulations. He also serves as professor of practice and co-director of the information privacy law program at the UMaine School of Law.

GENERAL
Bernstein Shur announced the launch of its joint technical and legal cybersecurity team.
Josh Silver, a shareholder and co-chair of the data security team, brings over 10 years of experience negotiating complex technology transactions, and serves as co-leader on the initiative.
Matt Kramer, the chief information officer, has covered all IT aspects in business and higher education for the past 20 years.


Tony Payne moves to MEMIC

The MEMIC Group has hired Anthony “Tony” Payne to serve as senior vice president, external affairs.
Payne, of Falmouth, will oversee corporate communications and marketing, advertising, public relations, community relations, and legislative and government affairs.
Most recently, he held the position of vice president, business development with Clark Insurance, an independent insurance agency.

Beth Given joined Portland Stage as development director.
She relocated to Maine after nearly a decade working in various organizations throughout New York City’s performing arts industry. Most recently, she served as a producer at Lincoln Center.

 

 

Portland Monthly Magazine hired Per Lofving as an advertising executive.
Lofving brings more than 35 years of publishing, marketing, and advertising experience. He previously held positions at leading computer industry publisher Ziff Davis Inc.

 

Wendy Byrd, of Appleton, joined Allen Insurance and Financial as an account manager in the company’s insured benefits division.
Byrd, a graduate of Lewiston High School and the University of Maine, is certified as a benefits account manager by the National Association of Health Underwriters. She is based in Camden at Allen’s Chestnut Street office.

Price Associates announced that Francis Eberle, Ph.D., has joined its Portland office.
Eberle spent more than 25 years as an executive for nonprofits and startups. Eberle previously served as the deputy executive director of the National Association of State Boards of Education and the executive director of the National Science Teachers Association.

Katrina Sink, M.D. joined the staff at Naples Family Practice, 410 Roosevelt Trail in Naples.
Sink earned her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan. She completed her family medicine residency and a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine through Grand Rapids Medical Education Partners in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Press Herald announces newsroom appointments

The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram announces two appointments in its newsroom.
Karen Beaudoin, web editor for the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram, is taking on a new role as director of digital content platforms.
Beaudoin’s position will support best practices and work flows utilizing the platform technologies shared by the company’s consortium of websites. She joined MaineToday Media more than 13 years ago and has held various positions, including a producer for MaineToday.com. Most recently, she was a producer, then web editor for the Press Herald.

Katherine Lee, city editor at the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram for the past five years, will move into the role of web editor.
Her new focus will be getting news to the web fast, updating developing stories continuously and supervising the way the news organization presents its journalism and uses social channels and analytics.

Karen Bilodeau, a partner at McTeague Higbee, was named to the board of directors of the Workers’ Injury & Advocacy Group.
Bilodeau has years of experience fighting for the rights of people who have been injured on the job.

Carolyn Mitchell, a 13-year employee at Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden, recently achieved an Accredited Customer Service Representative in personal insurance from the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America.
Mitchell, of Camden, has been with the company for 13 years.

GENERAL
Sebago Technics in South Portland announced the acquisition of Sweet Associates, a hydrogeological consulting company of Falmouth.
Both firms have been in business for more than 35 years. Through the acquisition, expanded servies will be available to clients of both firms.

Clyde Bergemann Bachmann Inc. in Auburn has been acquired by private investors and will once again be known as Bachmann Industries Inc.
Prior to the acquisition, the company comprised the air-gas handling division of the multinational Clyde Bergemann Power Group. CBPG acquired Bachmann Industries, Inc. in 2009 and renamed it Clyde Bergemann Bachmann. The group recently decided to sell the non-core asset as part of a restructuring.

Evdokia Eleftheriou, M.D., and David Taplinger, M.D., joined MMP – Neurology.

Steven Trockman was named director of marketing operations of New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland.

Trockman brings 18 years of public health and health care leadership experience at the federal, state and community level.

CLINIC OPENS

Jill Mahoney, M.D., and Jacob Aguiar, N.D., have opened Scarborough Integrative Health, a patient-centered, tick-borne disease clinic at 51 Route 1 in Scarborough.

Mahoney served as a general medical officer in the Navy, acting as senior medical officer for Destroyer Squadron 14 during a 2002 deployment. She received the Navy Achievement Medal for her service.

In 2006, she moved to Maine, where she has been caring for patients as a family physician for the past decade.

Aguiar works with patients to create personalized and effective treatment solutions. He spent the last several years treating over 1,000 patients with Lyme disease and tick-borne infections at North Coast Family Health in New Hampshire.

Sarah Kelly, owner of Sarah Kelly Coaching, is now a national board-certified health and wellness coach.
